Our Poetry Editor will read, edit, and provide feedback on poetry submissions. We need someone with a passion for literature to contribute educated opinions on the poetry submissions in our queue. All editors will work closely with the managing editor in developing the poetry section of the Torrid Literature Journal.
Please note that our editors work on a volunteer basis. All editors will be listed in the Masthead section of our website and they will receive a hard copy of each literary journal as it is released. In addition, we will gladly provide letters of recommendation.
Successful candidates will have a good understanding of the various types and forms of poetry as well as a commitment to the vision/mission of the Torrid Literature Journal.
This position can be fulfilled remotely. However, applicants must be able to donate at least a few days per month. The workflow depends on the flow of submissions. Applicants should be familiar with the general content of the Torrid Literature Journal. Please take this into account before applying. Free digital copies are available upon request.
Read and comment on poetry submissions and determine suitability for the Torrid Literature Journal
Solicit for new poetry submissions when necessary
Report directly to the managing editor and provide updates/progress reports as necessary
Assist managing editor with additional tasks as needed
Access to Microsoft Word and Excel
Familiarity with Submittable (or willingness to learn)
Internet connectivity & email access
Familiarity with poetic forms, styles, and techniques
Ability to meet editorial deadlines
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
A degree in English or past experience with editing and literature is preferred but not required.
